Pantomimteatern is a Swedish mime theatre company based in Stockholm at Påfågeln and has been an important part of Swedish theatre since 1977. A key part of Pantomimteatern’s mission is to reach a young audience with theatrical works characterized by warmth and humor through the language of corporeal mime. Pantomimteatern is above all dedicated to developing mime as an art form.
Pantomimteatern’s style of visual theatre has an emphasis on both storytelling and poetic imagery. Through the mime you can cross over any language barriers, no words are needed. Our company is part of the Swedish tradition of independent theatre and has created mime theatre for children of all ages since the 1960´s. Today, this tradition is a dynamic and creative force within Swedish cultural life.
Pantomimteatern also tours extensively to theatres and schools all over Sweden, as well as international venues. A vital part of our work is the exchange and collaboration between theatre-makers from different countries and traditions, coming together to develop ideas and projects.
Our international shows and workshops are an important part of what we do. We visited Italy, Bangladesh, Vietnam and China between 2006-2010. But one of our most sought after shows internationally was ”Charlie’s Kid”(2011) with shows at the festival Mini, midi, maxi in Bergen – Norway, Oulu International Theatre Festival and Famfest Theatre in Santiago de Chile. In 2014 the show had its US premiere at Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York and In the summer of 2015 we got invited to perform in Seoul, South Korea. During the last four decades Pantomimteatern has toured in 16 countries on four continents.
