Our shows

MOVEMENT IS OUR LANGUAGE. Pantomimteatern performs mime and dramatic theatre based on movement. Our performances use the body’s own language and are characterized by warmth, humor and respect for our audience. Using light, sound, masks, scenography and music, we present stories with many depths, suitable for everyone – children, adults and people who lack developed language or Swedish skills. Pantomimteatern produces silent shows that make everyone talk. Theatre for the heart! Since 1977 children have seen Pantomimteatern´s performances at both Theatre Påfågeln in Stockholm, as well as on tour throughout the country and the world. In conjunction with our performances or completely independently, we also offer workshops.

Pantomimteatern is a non-profit organisation. We are members of Teatercentrum, Swedish Assitej and the Swedish Union for Theatres. We are funded by the National Board of Culture, Stockholm City Council and Stockholm County Council, as well as various foundations and trusts.

At the far edge of the forest…

Bosse, that is, our Bo W Lindström, has been humming the children’s song, In a House at the Far Edge of the Forest, for a while. It’s about opening your door to those who are standing outside in the cold asking for help. We have decided to create a show with this theme: to receive and to welcome. A performance for small children that asks big questions.

Imagine a warm, musical, engaging and fun mime show that includes both shadow theatre and masks, with a focus on the idea of welcoming.

We investigate and play with concepts such as being different, and being afraid of the unfamiliar. Who is afraid of whom, really?

In our story we meet the stressed-out conductor, Dirren, who has fled the noise and commotion of the city to a quiet glade in the woods. There he finds a leaky old outdoor loo and moves in. All is peaceful and quiet until, suddenly, there’s a knock on the door… Who are these strange people disturbing me?’ One of them is being chased, others are just hungry, tired, cold, or lonely. One smells bad, another has large ears, and yet another speaks so strangely it’s impossible to understand.

When Dirren meets the animals, imagination is let loose. While the smelly skunk is getting a bath, the water turns into the Mediterranean that so many have to flee across…  The fire chasing the vulture looks like the grenades of war and imposing fireworks. Yet Dirren turns everyone away. And when the snow begins to fall and the air turns ice cold, a kangaroo mum arrives with all her little ones…. but now, Dirren finally softens – perhaps his new acquaintances have taught him that wherever the heart makes room, there is also room at the hearth – and that everyone of us deserves a place to call Home!

Somewhere in a dark, low resolution vacuum, Majora wakes up alone and entangled in a digital web. Majora wants to call out for help, but when they open their mouth, YouTube videos of cute kittens and twittered fake news come out instead. All of the worlds digital media has somehow ended up in Majora’s body!

Meanwhile, Navi is desperately searching for their sibling Majora, and gets lost among memes, GIFs, cyber bullying, fake news, YouTube influencers and pointless status updates.

Pantomimteatern gives a mime performance about screen addiction, which in a playful way wants to make the young audience aware of what the total connection does with our bodies.

Suitable for children and families from 9 years and above

In Hertha’s Studio

Inspired by Hertha Hillfon and her astounding artistry

Every day Hertha mucks about in her studio. She just can’t stay away from the clay! Hertha kneads and kneads and she creates masks, creatures and dreams. Never has she been this old – never has she had this many ideas, and all of them want to come alive!

Just one more sculpture! And another! And she has to finish off the bird – because she has to get to Florence – like she promised. But who’s that sneaking around in here? How did she get here? Through the kiln?

A performance inspired by Hertha Hillfon and her astounding artistry. All filtered through memories from her long friendship with Bo W Lindström, or Bosse the Mime, as Hertha liked to call him.

Press qoutes

”Lindström and Rudfeldt are forming a sentient and funny pas de deux. Both the old as well as the young actor convey with preciseness what also Hillfon’s life’s work was all about; where there is desire, there is life. It is astoundingly beautiful when Victoria Kahn and her actors come together to create mime art.” DN 27/10 2015

Charlie’s Kid

Chaplin’s silent film classic The Kid from 1921 comes to life on stage in a heart-warming slapstick about one of cinema’s most famous families. A tale of the rich and the poor, and the relationship between Charlie and an orphan kid unfolds in a world where not everything is black or white. This stage adaption utilizes both classic and innovative theatrical techniques. In creating the world of ”Charlie” the company uses mime, half-mask, an original musical score, film projections and a set design full of imaginative solutions and props.

In 2011 The Kid was awarded ”Best mime-play of the year” at the Stockholm Mime Festival. Pantomimteatern is the first theater company in the world with the rights to create a stage version of Charlie Chaplin’s first feature film. Charlies kid opened in February 2011 and have since then performed over 450 times in Sweden, Norway, Finland, Santiago de Chile, New York and Seoul.
